FTP Now is an FTP client that features a nice interface. But that is not all this application is about.
I like applications that are smart and that let me do whatever I want without interrupting. I don't like wasting time customizing programs either. FTP Now is an excellent tool out of the box. It has a nice FTP site manager that allows you to add FTP servers to a list of sites, so that you don't have to type in login details more than once. You can do this manually or use a wizard that guides you step by step. There is a checkable box for Anonymous access to sites, which saves you the type of typing
account names.
Once connected to an FTP site, I was able to browse it very fast. I tested this app with Microsoft's servers. I was able to see the file structure of the whole site without moving from the default path. I also was able to drag and drop files to download them. You can do the same to upload them. If you download something, a new window will pop-up, and it will take care of the download process. Meanwhile, you can continue to browse the FTP site. This just wasn't possible in the past when FTP clients were dummies.
I liked the quick connect menu below the toolbar. It is a great way of connecting to FTP sites without adding them to your FTP site manager.
What I didn't like is that it doesn't seem possible to connect to more than 1 server at a time, which means that there is no FXP support.
Pros
- Nice interface
- Good site manager
- Excellent performance
Cons
- It could benefit from a tabbed interface or multi-site support
